The Bury Fringe and Chortle Factory comedy club are thoroughly proud to be backing 'Stand Up For Recycling In The Streets', a campaign aiming to create awareness of and more demand for recycling 'on-the-go' bins in locations across the UK. They want to get people submitting pictures of themselves using the bins to their Facebook page (http://www.facebook.com/1000bins) but to make it as imaginative and fun an experience as possible, so are calling on comedians, musicians, performers and artists to back the project and get involved.

We'll be running 'pop up' entertainments at recycling bin locations, and want to hear from anyone who feels like doing something for a very good cause whilst also giving themselves some very positive promotion. The two women behind the campaign, Karen Cannard, herself from Bury St Edmunds, and Rachelle Strauss are both well known by the national media for their eco blogs 'The Rubbish Diet' and 'My Zero Waste', and the Waste and Resources Action Project (WRAP) which operates across the UK are already monitoring the project so we're looking for this to be as big as possible in terms of coverage and publicity. Although we are based in Bury we're hoping that creative people from everywhere will get on board - and if you've got the resources we'll certainly be willing to help you stage an event in any way we can.

We've also got ideas for encouraging businesses to get involved by offering them a free lunchtime gig for their staff (so there's no money, but a great chance to market yourself for corporate bookings!), comedy litter picks and more, and of course we want YOUR creative ideas to help 'Stand Up For Recycling' hit the headlines and really do some good.

The campaign launches officially on Monday 20th June to run alongside National Recycling Week, and will spread over 12 weeks, concluding in September with National Zero Waste Week. So there's lots of time to come up with some clever and eyecatching, attention grabbing stunts!

All events will be photographed, and filmed/recorded where possible with the results being submitted to the Facebook page and circulated around various websites and social media pages to spread the word about the campaign, so we're looking at broad exposure for everyone involved.

So who's with us for improving our world in more ways than one?
