Masons Arms Songwriting Competition

The Songwriting Competition run by Claire and Warwick Lowe, in conjunction with the Masons Arms Open Mic night, is now entering its 3rd year, and we're very excited to have it as a major feature in the Fringe 2010.

Open to songwriters of all ages and experience levels, the standard of the last two years has been extremely high, just proving how much talent we have in this patch of East Anglia alone. Not that the competition is confined to participants from Suffolk - anyone, anywhere in the world is welcome to take part!

The names have all been pulled from the battered old hat and we are all equally stunned at the result. This year we have limited the field to 20 entrants as we hoped this would give us all the time to fully enjoy each act, the performers a chance to relax and get comfy and the judges the freedom to deliberate fully.

This years heats and semi finals have all been played out and we have narrowed the field down to the final 6.

The Grand final will take place at the Unitarian Meeting House, Churchgate Street, Bury St Edmunds @ 7.30pm. Tickets on the door are £4 but if you want to get your ticket early to save dissapointment you can get them from the Masons Arms, Whiting Street, or by calling 07545 286574.

Our Finalists are:

Nik Lowe, John Williams, Alex Highton, Ben Sayer, The Plimpies, Jon Hart.

We also have performances from last years competition winner Hannah Vesty

and...

2008 "Next Big Thing" winner Ed Sheeran.
